Discussing Challenging Questions in Deep Learning Theory at TAD 2024 Retreat
The two-day event aimed to promote new cross-disciplinary collaborations in the fundamentals of AI community
The second Deep Learning Theory Retreat was organized by the Center for AI and Data Science on April 10-11, 2024. The event took place in Haifa and is supported by the Higher Council for Education as part of the competitive research grant in the fields of AI and Data Science that the center won in 2021.
Much of the recent success of AI relies on deep learning techniques. However, these remain poorly understood from a theoretical perspective.
In the project, we take advantage of an exceptionally strong and diverse group of researchers at TAU on this topic to tackle these challenging questions and their practical implications. A key aspect of this project is in forming new cross-disciplinary collaborations to uncover original angles on the core questions in this area.
The PI's and students in the group presented during the 2 days of the retreat their work in progress and established results. We also held a special panel discussion on the Role of Theory in Modern Deep Learning.
We thank all the participants and the program committee of this year's retreat: Dr. Nadav Cohen and Dr. Shiri Stempler.
