A Celebration of Research, Collaboration, and Vision

The annual conference of the Tel Aviv University Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (TAD) took place on March 26, 2025, at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History. The event brought together researchers, industry experts, and students for a day of inspiring talks.

 

Opening Remarks

Prof. Meir Feder, the outgoing head of TAD, opened the conference with a presentation of the center’s achievements over the past two years, highlighting major initiatives, new academic programs, and the expansion of interdisciplinary collaborations in AI and data science.

 

 

Keynote Lecture: AI, Promise or Peril?

Prof. Nadav Cohen (School of Computer Science and TAD management) introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. Oren Etzioni - a leading figure in AI, founding CEO of the Allen Institute for AI, and founder of Vercept and TrueMedia. Prof. Etzioni’s talk, titled "AI: Promise or Peril?", addressed the complex ethical, technological, and societal challenges posed by the rapid advancement of AI.

 

Showcasing TAD-Supported Research

The event featured presentations by TAD researchers, showcasing successful projects supported by the center. Among them was a collaborative study between Google and Tel Aviv University, presented by Idan Szpektor from Google.

 

 

A farewell ceremony to the outgoing head of TAD and the introduction of the new head of TAD

A special farewell ceremony was held in honor of Prof. Meir Feder, recognizing his visionary leadership since TAD’s establishment. 

 

The ceremony also welcomed Prof. Yishay Mansour as the new head of the center. Prof. Saharon Rosset,  TAD management, and the School of Statistics, together with Dr. Shiri Stempler, Executive Director at TAD, were the moderators of the ceremony.

 

The ceremony included greetings by Prof. Ariel Porat, president of TAU, Prof. Mark Shtaif, rector of TAU, Prof. Tova Milo, dean of the Exact Sciences faculty, Prof. Ofer Shayevitz, Electrical Engineering, and Dr. Moni Shahar, Scientific manager of TAD.

 

Following, Prof. Meir Feder and Ronen Dar, VP Software and AI Systems AI at NVIDIA, presented scientific talks.

 

During the event, we enjoyed several musical works by the Gertler String Quartet from the school of music at TAU.
