Dr. Uri Obolski is a senior lecturer at Tel Aviv University, holding a joint position in the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, and the Porter School of the Environment and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Exact Sciences. He holds a BSc in mathematics, and an MSc and PhD in computational biology from Tel Aviv University. He conducted his postdoctoral research in the University of Oxford as an EMBO research fellow.
Our research focuses on computational epidemiology of infectious diseases. We develop and apply mathematical models, machine learning and advanced statistical techniques to electronic medical records and other disease-related data. For example, we predict antibiotic resistance patterns of hospitalized patients' infections using machine learning; apply Bayesian networks to antibiograms to understand cross-resistance patterns in the presence of clinical confounders; and develop Bayesian experimental design methods for pooled testing of COVID-19 infections. Our major aim is to understand and predict the dynamics of infectious diseases to successfully mitigate their future emergence and spread.
