Dr. Liora Sarfati

Research work
Liora Sarfati is a senior lecturer at the Department of East Asian studies of Tel Aviv University. Her specialism as an anthropologist and folklorist spans religion, society, culture, and the media. Two research topics in South Korea’s culture that she explores are shamanic healing ritual that include possession trance, and performativity in mass demonstrations in Seoul.
Her research methods include urban ethnography, and ethnography of the media through digital humanity tools.
Her book, Contemporary Korean Shamanism: From Ritual to Digital, was published recently by Indiana University Press.
