Google for Academia: Elevating Teaching, Learning and Research
The workshop scheduled for March 10 has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon.
The Center for AI and Data Science at Tel Aviv University (TAD) in collaboration with the Lead Project at TAU are happy to invite faculty, students, and staff at TAU to the workshop:
Google for Academia: Elevating Teaching, Learning and Research
which will be held on March 10, 2026, Checkpoint building 001, 9:30 - 15:30.
The detailed agenda is attached.
The event will include lectures and hands on training on google tools for teaching and for academic research.
See below info on each of the lectures / workshops.
Participation is free but registration is required. We have limited places.
- The Future of Learning: AI Opportunities in Higher Education
Generative AI represents a major inflection point for education, offering both unprecedented opportunities for personalization and significant challenges regarding academic integrity and skill readiness. We will delve into Google's vision and big research questions on the future of education and showcase the newest tools and products demonstrating AI advancements in this field.
- Workshop | The AI Advantage: Accelerating the Academic Research Lifecycle
This hands-on workshop bridges the gap between general AI literacy and rigorous academic application.
We will move beyond the basics of 'chatting' to build a practical 'Research Survival Kit' using Gemini & NotebookLM.
The session will cover scalable workflows for researchers across all disciplines, from automating literature reviews to generating code for complex data analysis. Whether you are a tech-skeptic or an early adopter, you will leave with tangible strategies to accelerate your specific research needs without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
Be sure to have a few Chrome tabs open with current project documents and a charged laptop!
- Google Workspace AI Use Cases for Arts
The session examines the practical application of generative AI within artistic workflows. We will review the technical capabilities of Google Vids, Lyria, Flow, and Nano Banana among other tools, demonstrating how these tools function to support video production, audio composition, and image synthesis within the Google Workspace ecosystem.
- Documents Research with Pinpoint
Pinpoint is a research platform for exploring and analyzing large collections of documents. It is aimed at helping journalists and academics find insights faster, extract data from troves of documents and organize their research work.
This session will provide an introduction and hands-on demonstration of Pinpoint's key features, including generative AI powered research tools.
- Accelerating biological research using AlphaFold 3
AlphaFold, a deep learning system for protein structure prediction, has revolutionised structural biology.
I will focus on AlphaFold 3 and AlphaFold Server, highlighting their expanded capabilities, diverse applications and limitations, emphasising the importance of confidence metrics for successful use.
AlphaFold's impact is evident in the numerous publications and tools utilising its predictions, demonstrating its potential to accelerate research and assist experimental studies.
- Towards an AI Co-Scientist: Accelerating Scientific Discovery
This talk explores the potential of generative AI to act as a collaborative partner in the scientific process. We will discuss the development of "AI Co-Scientist" systems capable of synthesizing vast literature and raw data to generate and rank novel research hypotheses.
Although this AI framework is domain-agnostic, our focus for this session will be on life sciences and biomedicine. We will demonstrate the system's impact through three real-world validations: ranging from novel drug discovery to uncovering unknown mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance.
Looking forward to seeing you all,
TAD team
